Condensate Flow Rate Calculator

Enter any 2 values to calculate the missing variable

Looking for Condensate Flow Area Calculator to help you calculate the condensate flow in a system? This calculator would helps you in multiple ways like to calculate steam, water or compressed air and boiler condensate calculation, gpm per ton condensate rate etc. This calculator can be used in various industries such as HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), power generation.

Formula:

The formula is:

CFR=SF×(1SQ100)\text{CFR} = \text{SF} \times \left(1 – \frac{\text{SQ}}{100}\right

Variables:

VariableMeaning
CFRCondensate Flow Rate (the amount of condensate in the flow)
SFSteam Flow (the total flow of steam, usually in kg/h or lb/h)
SQSteam Quality (the percentage of steam in the flow)

How to Calculate ?

First of all find out the total steam flow (SF) in the system. Now, determine the steam quality (SQ) as a percentage, which represents the amount of steam in the flow (the rest is condensate). After that, divide the steam quality (SQ) by 100 to convert it to a decimal. Finally, subtract this value from 1, then multiply the result by the steam flow (SF) to calculate the condensate flow rate (CFR).

Solved Calculations :

Example 1:

Given:

  • Steam Flow (SF) = 1000 kg/h
  • Steam Quality (SQ) = 90%
CalculationInstructions
Step 1: CFR = SF×(1SQ100)\text{SF} \times \left(1 – \frac{\text{SQ}}{100}\right)Start with the formula.
Step 2: CFR = 1000×(190100)1000 \times \left(1 – \frac{90}{100}\right)Replace SF with 1000 kg/h and SQ with 90%.
Step 3: CFR = 1000×(10.9)1000 \times \left(1 – 0.9\right)Convert SQ to a decimal.
Step 4: CFR = 1000×0.11000 \times 0.1Subtract 0.9 from 1.
Step 5: CFR = 100 kg/hMultiply by the steam flow to get the condensate flow rate.

Answer:
The condensate flow rate is 100 kg/h.

Example 2:

Given:

  • Steam Flow (SF) = 500 lb/h
  • Steam Quality (SQ) = 85%
CalculationInstructions
Step 1: CFR = SF×(1SQ100)\text{SF} \times \left(1 – \frac{\text{SQ}}{100}\right)Start with the formula.
Step 2: CFR = 500×(185100)500 \times \left(1 – \frac{85}{100}\right)Replace SF with 500 lb/h and SQ with 85%.
Step 3: CFR = 500×(10.85)500 \times \left(1 – 0.85\right)Convert SQ to a decimal.
Step 4: CFR = 500×0.15500 \times 0.15Subtract 0.85 from 1.
Step 5: CFR = 75 lb/hMultiply by the steam flow to get the condensate flow rate.

Answer:
The condensate flow rate is 75 lb/h.

Final Words:

The Condensate Flow Rate Calculator can be used to see the amount of condensate (water) present in a steam flow system. Steam quality refers to the percentage of steam in the flow, while the remaining portion represents the condensate. This calculation is crucial in industries where steam systems are used, such as power plants, manufacturing, and HVAC systems.
